Long before ATMs, airline check-in kiosks, and automated kiosks that vend everything from DVD rentals to Apple® products, the first Smarte Carte luggage trolleys and Cart Management Units rolled into airports, introducing travelers to the convenience of self- service.

In 1967, Jim Muellner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was commissioned to design and build some of the first self-serve luggage trolley vending machines. In 1970 Smarte Carte, Inc. opened its doors with self-serve luggage trolley operations in Salt Lake City, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

For over 40 years, Smarte Carte has been the leader in self-serve luggage trolley, electronic locker, strollers and massage chair operations.
