An oven is an ancient kitchen item and has been used in different forms since the dawn of civilisation. An oven consists of an enclosed cavity or tunnel where food is exposed to a controlled heating environment. Different ovens can take heat from different heat sources such as wood, electricity and natural gas, etc.

An oven can serve different purposes from grilling, baking, roasting, defrosting, and heating food to the desired temperature. Modern ovens are very efficient machines and can save your time and energy as compared to conventional cooking methods.

They come in different sizes based upon their usage at a certain place and can be mounted in different ways i.e. wall oven, free-standing type oven, earth oven, etc.

Some of the common types of pizza ovens are;
  • Brick Oven: Brick ovens are a type of ceramic oven (made with clay and other ceramic material) mostly used in Italian culture and share an intimate history with pizza. These ovens are often wood fired.
  • Earth Oven: Another typically wood fired oven, these are usually in the form of a pit dug into the ground which is surrounded by a heating environment. This type of oven has been used in numerous cultures.
  • Electric Oven: An electric oven uses electrical energy to produce heat i.e. resistive heating. They use heating elements such as wires and coils to produce heat. Many Electric pizza ovens have multiple decks so you can cook multiple pizzas.
  • Conveyor pizza oven: Usually electric powered, the pizza passes through the cooking chamber on a conveyor belt
  • Microwave Oven: Such types of ovens produce microwaves inside the oven’s chamber. These waves energize the water molecules in the food that serves the purpose of cooking and heating.
