Breakfast was an important meal to get the day running so all messes had a liberal supply of marmalades, conserves and jams.
Plus you needed to have the appropriate and traditional condiments for the meat meals served through the year.
Each Officers' Mess has its own traditions, rules and rituals but you can be pretty sure that one tradition is common to all messes – marmalade at breakfast. Woe betide the cook who runs out of marmalade or failed to cook up a batch in reserve. He'd be as popular as a ‘rat in the ranks’ and probably last just as long.
The Regimental Condiment Company | Preserves, Relishes & Sauces
We'd love to tell you some fantastic stories about the origins of The Regimental Condiment Company; how we've supplied legions of armies and regiments since the 1800s; helped them fight wars, and nourished the troops over many years... but that would be stretching the truth. The fact is that the company was started in 2010 with an interesting product idea, a love of military history, a passion for cooking, and a collection of old family recipe books.
Our family has had a long history of making preserves, relishes and sauces from recipes handed down through the generations. Old aunts passed their passion, knowledge and recipe books onto younger family members to continue the traditions. Some more family research unearthed even more great recipes that over the years, have stood the test of time... and taste.
Where possible, our products are all natural and contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Nearly all our products are manufactured in Australia in our HACCP and Halal certified commercial kitchen in Daylesford - the gourmet food capital of Victoria - to traditional and family recipes.
The brand is growing rapidly. It is enjoying success not only in sales, but also being recognised for the packaging and product quality with trophies and medals already awarded to it. We're adding more new products to the range as we grow and extending the brand into new categories. We hope you enjoy our products as much as we enjoy making them.
