Liquor Act 2007, Gaming & Liquor Administration Act 2007 under review

Both Acts, which commenced on 1 July 2008, contain a review mechanism to determine whether their respective policy objectives remain valid and whether the terms of the Acts remain appropriate for securing those objectives.

The Liquor Act regulates the sale and supply of liquor in NSW, while the Gaming and Liquor Administration Act prescribes the establishment and operation of the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority, as well as investigative powers available to police and the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing's inspectors.

The Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing, and Minister for the Arts, the Hon George Souris MP, is required to table a report on the review of both Acts in the NSW Parliament by 13 December 2013.

To help inform those making a submission, an explanatory paper is available that outlines the existing NSW regulatory framework and administrative arrangements.

Michael Foggo, former Commissioner, NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, has been appointed to chair the review and provide a report to the minister.

As outlined in the explanatory paper, the review's Chairperson, Michael Foggo, has been meeting with identified stakeholders to outline the purpose, scope and methodology of the review, and discuss the submission framework detailed in the explanatory paper and central issues.
