How to choose the right trolley

Choosing the right trolley is not as simple as you might think.

Here are just some of the key things you need to consider to make the right choice for your situation and task:

  • What type of goods are to be carried?
  • How much weight does it need to carry?
  • What sort of surface will it be used on?
  • Do you have to use a lift?
  • Do you need to strap the goods to the trolley?
  • Do you have to negotiate stairs?
  • How many stairs?
  • Do you go up and down gutters?
  • Do you have to lift the trolley on and off a truck?

The answers to these questions will help you get clear about your requirements. And to help you make the right choice, we have many speciality trolleys designed in consultation with industries for specific goods and tasks already identified such as;

  • Appliances
  • Removalists
  • Kegs
  • Linen
  • Solicitor's files
  • Order picking
  • Chairs
  • Sheet materials
  • Laundry
  • Luggage
  • Stair climbing
  • Case and Crates

Now most importantly, the castors!

The right choice of castors is vital as they do most of the work. The larger the castor, the easier it is to push. Pump up wheels are even easier to push, however they need maintenance. So they perform at their optimum, air pressure needs to be checked regularly.

On our hand trolleys, all the castors we use have bearings. Bearings in the castors make them easier to push.  A lot of cheap trolleys skimp here! The only time we do not recommend bearings is where water is involved. This will cause them to seize up with rust.  All castors need periodic greasing to keep them working at their best.
