Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice Troy Grant said the freeze extension will give certainty to residents and businesses within the zones, pending the statutory review process.
"We want these communities to have certainty and confidence that nothing will change while we conduct this major review into the impacts of the lockout laws on the Kings Cross and CBD precincts," Grant said.
"Once the review is complete, the Government will have a firmly stated position about the future of lockouts in these precincts which will provide certainty for these communities going forward."
The current freeze on new licences in both precincts will be extended to February 2017.
A freeze on new licences in Kings Cross began in 2009 to cap the number of licenced venues. In 2014, the Kings Cross freeze was extended for two years and a new freeze was placed on licences in the CBD as part of the government’s response to alcohol-fuelled violence.
