An ice flake machine, also known as an ice flaker, is a piece of equipment designed to make ice flakes. It is widely used in the food industry to keep a variety of items fresh, such as fish, poultry, and many others.

Fresh water is injected into the evaporator of an ice flaker. It starts freezing when it comes in contact with the walls of the evaporator. Modern ice flake machines use a refrigerant that is pushed through the system. The auger then scrapes the ice from the bottom of the cylinder. Some models feature solenoid valves that produce hot air to loosen the ice.

Lastly, unlike the ice cubes, the ice crusher then crushes the large ice blocks into ice flakes. This way, an ice flaker makes hard and dry ice flakes with a snow-like texture. These ice flakes are then ejected into a bin.
