Nestled in the picturesque vineyards on the outskirts of Tanunda, this latest edition to the region’s tourist offering is already astounding tourists and locals alike.
A place where luxury, decadence and rich indulgence meets colour, fun and frivolity – The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company is fast becoming the “go to” destination for all age groups.
Equipped by Vanrooy, The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company boasts an artisan chocolatiers kitchen complete with large windows for customer viewing, a retail area, specialty café and cellar door overlooking the vines, an amphitheatre and a vast expanse of water. Representing an amazing $5 million investment that spans an area of 1300 m2 and looks even more impressive in person.
The brainchild of FABAL founder Chris Day and his wife Sandy, the duo is excited to bring their new and unique venture to fruition. “There are so many things to do, you won’t get bored here!” states Sandy.

Chris said that until now, the Barossa Valley had been short of significant “non-wine” destinations suitable for the whole family. “We hope this will provide something unique for the whole family and give people another reason to visit the region” Chris explains.
“We want to cater for all demographics, showcase the best of the best in local food and wine, and our selection of gourmet chocolates will give us a great point of difference for families and those with a sweet tooth who are looking to indulge”.
Leading the charge of the masterful creation of chocolate is head chocolatier, Amy Sajinovic. The Melbournian was hand-picked by Chris and Sandy for her energetic and passionate attitude towards the art of chocolate making. Amy has settled into what she describes as her dream job, bringing her sense of provenance to the range of more than 250 chocolates produced and packaged on site.
Choosing the region’s favourite chocolate wasn’t the only huge task for Amy, she has also been instrumental in ensuring the artisan chocolate production kitchen uses state of the art specialist machinery not seen anywhere else in Australia. “I’ve created this from the ground up and it’s the way I want it to be” Amy enthuses. Sparkling and new, the production area is clearly Amy’s pride and joy as she describes the latest technology people will see her team of six chocolatiers use every day, including a massive new cooling tunnel.

The fast-paced kitchen is a reflection of Amy’s passion for innovation, whether it’s using the latest technology imported from Belgium and Italy to make rich, oozing ganache or incorporating fresh ingredients sourced just kilometres away. “I like the traditional products… and being innovative, using my imagination to create something different”.
Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white and the rare ruby chocolate are used in the Barossa Choclate Company’s range which includes bars, blocks, Chocolate World enrobed and panned products, moulded pralines and hollow figurines, incorporating local Barossa ingredients whenever possible.
