We collect licence fees from broadcasters and businesses publicly playing recorded music (CDs, tapes, records) or music videos, and distribute the money to the copyright holders (licensors) and Australian recording artists registered with us.
You’re entitled to register with us if you’re a recording artist who is:
an Australian citizen,
an Australian protected person or
an Australian resident;
is a featured performer (i.e., not a session, contract musician or DJ) on a protected and eligible recording (i.e., the recording is made by an Australian citizen, resident or company or by a majority of featured artists who are Australian citizens or residents).
PPCA | Recording Artists' Licences
The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia is a national, non government, non-profit organisation that represents the interests of record companies and Australian recording artists.
We work together with our licensors, being thousands of Australian recording artists and hundreds of labels both major and independent.
While PPCA enables businesses to thrive by playing a repertoire of quality music, we also safeguard the rights of thousands of Australian recording artists and labels, ensuring that they receive a fair return for their music.
