Grant said that the extended trading, from 10pm to midnight, was available for hotels and clubs in Tamworth at the weekend for the launch of its annual Country Music Festival.
"Celebrating or watching major events with friends at your favorite licensed venue is a popular entertainment option for many people," Grant said.
"The extension of Sunday trading for a number of special events in 2016 will allow residents to enjoy themselves in safe and controlled licensed environments without having to cut their celebrations short.
"For the first time the extension has been given for pubs and clubs state-wide for the Big Bash Grand Final, so people in NSW can watch the competition on the television at their local with friends and family.
"However people celebrating these events need to remember to consume alcohol responsibly and we’re putting licensees on notice that they have to comply with our responsible service of alcohol laws which are there to protect everyone."
Sunday trading has been extended from 10pm to midnight for hotels and clubs for the following events:
- Tamworth's Country Music Festival on 17 and 24 January (extended trading on 17 January applies to the Tamworth Regional Council local government area only);
- The Big Bash Cricket League Grand Final on 24 January (extended trading applies state-wide);
- The Australian Open Men's Tennis Final on 31 January (extended trading applies statewide);
- The Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft on 12 June (extended trading applies to Coonamble Shire Council local government area only); and
- The NRL grand final on 2 October (extended trading applies state-wide).
Individual hotels and clubs must still comply with any previously imposed trading restrictions or other conditions that apply to their licences under the Liquor Act or imposed by local councils under planning laws. The exemptions will not change Sydney's last drinks and lockouts or the sale of takeaway alcohol state-wide.
Extended Sunday trading exemptions for special events are applied every year.
