Redback Original is Australia’s original craft beer - first launched in the late eighties. Produced around the time of the Americas Cup defence - Redback’s innovation and unique style took an Australia starved of beer diversity by storm.
Styled on the traditional German wheat beer or weizen style of beer. Redback has a fruity/clove aroma, a generous creamy mouth feel and refreshing hop finish.
We use both malted wheat and barley, and then hop with Pride of Ringwood hops. Fermentation is produced with a specially developed yeast strain.
Prawns. Without a doubt Australia’s culinary coat of arms could be a chilled Redback with a couple of barbecued prawns — this could even be a possible design for a new Aussie flag. However, it is probably going a bit far to mention Redback in the anthem. Maybe.

Matilda Bay Brewery | Brewery
Matilda Bay Brewing Company is dedicated to brewing a range of distinctive beers, hand crafted from the very best malt and hops available.
In 2007 we relocated to the vibrant craft beer scene in Victoria, and continued brewing first in Dandenong and most recently at an old renovated Cadbury’s chocolate factory in Bertie St Port Melbourne, which includes a bar & restaurant – so we can again talk directly to our beer lovers.
Throughout the years we’ve produced some of Australia’s favourite specialty beers & ciders, and along the way bagged a swag of trophies and awards. Our highly regarded Head Brewer – Scott Vincent – leads our brewing team with pride as they continue on the mission established in 1984 at the Sail & Anchor Hotel.
