Business as usual for Melbourne's iconic Great Britain Hotel

Unearthed live music will remain integral to the pub and the new owners will continue to foster Melbourne music's up-and-comers as it is widely renowned and admired for.

"Why mess with a good thing?" said Melbourne Venue Company's CEO, Michael Thiele.

The pub group responsible for launching the hugely successful Walkabout pub franchise in the UK know a thing or two about iconic venues and say they are excited to take over management of the venue in July 2014.

The pub pioneers confirm the only thing they will be improving is the bathrooms. "We understand the beauty of a historic pub with character and we are not about to mess with that," Thiele said.

Melbourne music lovers can rest assured that the MVC will be hosting original live acts as per the current schedule of three nights per week and will  remain  a  hub  for  unearthing unique Melbourne talent, which is good news story for music lovers and GB-fans alike.

The MVC's portfolio of pubs include The College Lawn, The Perseverance, Geebung Polo Club, Golden Gate, The Hawthorn Hotel, The Limerick, Provincial Hotel, Exchange Hotel, The Local, Terrace Bar and Brasserie, The Taphouse, The Mentone Hotel, The Imperial Hotels in South Yarra and Bourke Street, and the recently relaunched Duke of Wellington in the CBD.
