Cleaning the coffee equipment in a coffee shop greatly contributes to enhancing the coffee and delivering customer experience.

This is possible by doing a bit of regular upkeep and deep cleaning. Thus, you can prevent the build-up of back pressure on your pump and make the element work more effectively. Doing so can also help you save power and avoid any costly repairs or complete replacement.

Considering this collection of café tools, coffee professionals and even home baristas take coffee equipment cleaning very seriously using a variety of cleaning products. For instance, a diverse collection of cafetto cleaning products can clean all parts of your coffee machine from milk cleaners to descalers.

While some coffee professionals maintain their coffee equipment using just one type of cleaning product, let us not forget that one-size-fits-all mentality does not always work. Take cafetto cleaning products as an example. Cafetto truly has a product that suits every situation. From espresso cleaners, grinder cleaners, milk cleaners to descalers and other cleaning accessories. Let us discuss each cafetto product applicable for cleaning coffee equipment in a coffee shop, and the best practices for taking care of each piece of equipment.

Traditional Espresso Machine

Cafetto offers a range of high-performance cleaners formulated to clean espresso machine group heads, valves, and line. Its range of espresso machine cleaning powders helps remove coffee oils, grounds, and stains. Thus, the aroma and taste of espresso will be improved once the machine is cleaned. Espresso cleaning powders can be diluted to soak group handles and filters and remove stains, helping to keep your components in excellent condition.

Group Head

This part is known to be the meeting point of the espresso machine, portafilter, and coffee ground. In order for the baristas to brew uniform shots of espresso, the water is forced through the grounds at an ideal temperature and pressure. However, if the lingering coffee residue isn’t cleaned from the filter screen of the group, group head won’t be able to distribute the water evenly through the grounds.

Backflushing can be performed to address this built-up coffee oil. Backflushing process using Cafetto Espresso Clean clears the coffee gunk accumulating in the group head and filter screen.

Backflushing every delivery group using Espresso Clean Tablets:

1.) Remove the coffee filter from the group handle, then replace it with blind filter.

2.) For daily cleaning process – Scoop 1 level of Cafetto Espresso Clean into the group handle and insert as if brewing espresso.

For less often cleaning of the espresso machine, you may use 2 level scoops.

3.) Start the cycle and let it run for 10 seconds so the cleaner dissolves.

4.) Stop the cycle and let it sit for 10 seconds.

5.) Repeat the start and stop cycle for 4 more times – running for 10 seconds and stopping for 10 seconds.

6.) Detach the group handle and rinse well under the stream of water from delivery group. Then, turn it off.

7.) Re-attach the handle with blind filter, start and stop cycle 10 times – running for 5 seconds, stopping for 2 seconds to ensure thorough rinsing.

8.) Remove the blind filter and insert regular filter.

9.) Brew and discard a single espresso to re-season the machine.

Daily Cleaning Procedures for Filter and Group Handle

Portafilter is definitely a barista’s best friend. This is where all the magic happens – from collecting the coffee grounds, to stabilizing the tamp, to initiating the brewing process, and dispensing the espresso.

1.) Group handles and filters must be soaked in 500ml of hot water with 2 teaspoons of Cafetto Espresso Clean / Espresso Machine Cleaner for 10 minutes.

2.) Rinse them thoroughly in running hot water.

Steam Wand

Milk lovers enjoy the creamy texture of frothed milk in a cappuccino because of the steam wand. It is a café tool that allows baristas to delight their customers by pouring steamed milk in the shape of a heart or Rosetta.

However, it takes both skill and clean equipment to produce the perfect microfoam for a tasty milk drink or latte art design. Even though the wand is purged, milk may turn stale inside the steam wand and blocks the stream’s path. Thanks to Cafetto’s Milk Frother Cleaner (MFC) range you can sanitise, remove milk residue and hard water scale from milk lines and frothers.

Whether your espresso coffee machine works with hard water or if you need a cleaner to break down any milk build-ups, Cafetto is the key! Simply rinse or flush the milk line before and after using cleaning products to ensure best performance.

Batch Brewers

A batch brewer works if you are yielding upwards of 20 coffees in one brew. It is a known model for its efficiency and consistency in brew methods. Also, it provides quality cup after cup especially in a morning rush or a calm weekend afternoon.

Batch brewer, when used regularly, requires a little more upkeep in order to maintain a tasty cup. Coffee can sit in the batch brewer for couple of hours that’s why rancid residue in both the airpot and brewer basket can taint current and future batches.

With our Cafetto Brewer Cleaner Tablets, you can remove coffee oils and coffee stain, providing a superior clean.

Grinders

One of the most important factors in brewing is grinding coffee as precisely and evenly as possible. Grind size and consistency affect the extraction level, brew recipe, and overall quality of the cup.

A good grind can be achieved by maintaining a clean grinder. However, if old coffee particles lodge inside a coffee grinder, and grimy coffee oils adhere to the burr set, it can diminish grind precision and shorten the life of the grinder.

Grinder Clean from Cafetto removes any build-up of stale coffee residue and coffee odours. It cleans grinder burrs and casings in order to improve the performance and life of grinder burrs.

Cafetto Grinder Cleaner requires no disassembly of grinder when being used. It is gluten-free, with 100% natural grain based proprietary formula – no binders or chemicals used in processing.

How to Use the Cafetto Grinder Clean

  1. Remove all the coffee from the hopper.
  2. Scoop one capful of Cafetto Grinder Clean into the hopper.
  3. Run the grinder so it will grind all the Grinder Clean in hopper.
  4. Using a Pallo Grind Minder, brush out any dust in the grinder dosing chamber.
  5. Repeat the process above once more with one capful of coffee beans to season burrs.
  6. The grinder can now be ready for use.

Note: In the course of grinding, a small amount of dust may develop and is harmless. Simply wipe the particulates from the hopper, spout, and doser.

Descalers

Cafetto’s descaling range increases machine reliability to get the most out of your equipment. The scale build-up causes downtime to equipment which leads to increased machine service frequency, part replacements, and shortened machine lifespan. Furthermore, scale build-up reduces the quality of espresso flavour.
