Family-owned Taylors Wines has won the World's Best $15-$20 Shiraz at the biggest international Shiraz competition, continuing to put the Clare Valley on the global wine map.

The 2013 Taylors Estate Shiraz competed against more than 500 wines at the Australian-based internationally reaching Winestate World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge, which is even larger than France's Syrah du Monde. The 2013 Taylors Estate Shiraz was deemed by the panel of 15 esteemed judges including Masters of Wine Drew Noon and Phil Reedman to be worthy of the title.

The $15-$20 category has been noted by the competition organisers as a "hot category to win" with some of the best wineries from the most renowned wine producing countries in the world competing for the ultimate honour, including France, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand and of course Australia.

Taylors Wines third-generation Managing Director Mitchell Taylor said the Taylors Estate Shiraz was a wine that was close to his family's heart as it was one of the first two wines released in 1973 after establishing their winery in the Clare Valley, South Australia.

"This is such a compliment to the whole team at Taylors who are so passionate about making wines that offer exceptional value, at any price, to enjoy with family and friends. To have a wine that is readily available in liquor stores nationally for only $18.95 (RRP) win such a prestigious international award shows this commitment," Mitchell said.

"We are so proud that this wine has seen success at both competitions overseas and on home soil, winning a platinum medal, three gold medals and now this award."

The 2013 vintage was relatively mild in the Clare Valley, with regular spring rains promoting excellent vine health and subsequent fruit of intense varietal character. The 2013 Taylors Estate Shiraz has a dark red colour with ruby hues and a palate which is rich, luscious and round.
