Drink to that: AVL wins big at international wine awards

25/05/2012 - Winemaker Australian Vintage Limited (AVL) has won accolades at two international wine competitions.

AVL won seven gold medals across its brands McGuigan, Nepenthe and Yaldara, the highest number by an Australian wine producer, at the International Wine Festival.
 
As a category, Australia was awarded 69 gold medals.
 
McGuigan Wines received five gold medals for its 2010 Shortlist Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, 2005 Shortlist Eden Valley Riesling, 2007 Shortlist Eden Valley Riesling, 2010 Shortlist Eden Valley Riesling and 2004 Bin 9000 Hunter Valley Semillon.
 
Gold medals were also awarded to Yaldara for its 20-year-old Muscat and Adelaide Hills winery Nepenthe for its 2010 Ithaca Chardonnay.
 
AVL also won two awards at the Decanter Wine Awards, both for Nepenthe.
 
The 2011 Nepenthe Altitude Sauvignon Blanc won a trophy for the Best Australian Sauvignon Blanc over STG10 ($A16.18), while the brand's 2010 Altitude Shiraz also won a gold medal.
