Domino's launches low-carb crust in revamped range
09/07/2012 - Domino's Pizza Enterprises has become the first Australian Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) to offer a low-carb product on its menu, with the launch of a low-carb pizza base.
The new base is part of the company's revamped Good Choice Range which also now includes three 97 per cent fat-free full size pizzas.
Domino's BBQ Meatlovers on Low Carb Crust contains 10.46 grams of carbs per 100 grams verse the same pizza on Classic Crust which contains 42.9 grams of carbs.
The new Low Carb Crust has been specially formulated with nuts and seeds while the 97 per cent fat-free pizzas are full size pizzas ideal for sharing.
Domino's CEO Don Meij said the new Good Choice Range 97 per cent fat-free pizzas and Low Carb Crust were developed in response to consumers becoming more health conscious.
"A rally towards healthier eating has definitely taken place and now consumers are actively searching for more health-conscious options when dining out or ordering takeaway," Meij said.
"However, we also know for a fact that when it comes to convenient food options they are not willing to compromise on taste or enjoyment.
"Our new Good Choice Range offers the best of both worlds the enjoyment of sharing pizza with friends and eating healthier at the same time."
Meij said it was important for Domino's to scope out a low-carb pizza base given many people now enjoy the benefits of consuming less carbs.
"We are serious about breaking away from the 'unhealthy' fast food mold but for us it was more than just offering low fat pizzas. People have different health and lifestyle requirements and this includes following a low-carb diet," Meij said.
"Now you still have pizza as a treat but enjoy the option of either choosing one of our delicious 97 per cent fat-free pizzas or enjoying your regular favourite on our low carb base."
The Low Carb Crust is available with any pizza from the Value, Traditional or Premium Media release ranges.
Domino's and its franchisees have 559 stores across Australia and New Zealand, employing more than 16,000 part-time and full-time staff and making more than 50 million pizzas each year.
